Florida Unemployment ID.me Verification — How to Clear an Identity Hold
FloridaCommerce requires claimants to verify their identity before benefits can be released and directs them to create an ID.me account for verification. Claimants under 18 should call the Customer Service Center for help verifying their identity. If verification is incomplete, an identity hold can block payments even when your monetary determination shows benefits.
How ID.me Verification Works
When you reach the identity-verification step in Reconnect, ID.me lets you choose Self-Service or Video Call. The process involves:
- Upload a government-issued photo ID — driver's license, state ID, or passport
- Complete the verification method you choose — Self-Service uses a video selfie matched to your ID; for Video Call, an agent compares you to the document you uploaded
- Provide and confirm your personal information — such as your phone number, Social Security number, or U.S. address, if requested
If ID.me verifies you, you return to Reconnect. ID.me says Self-Service usually takes 5–10 minutes.
When Verification Fails
The common failure points are a mismatch between your ID.me selfie and your photo ID (lighting, angle, or a significant appearance change), a recent name change that does not match your documents, or documents that are expired or unreadable.
ID.me also offers Video Call if you choose that method or cannot verify with Self-Service. You upload your documents, enter personal information, and meet with an agent who compares you to the documents. After your documents are approved, ID.me displays an estimated wait time for the next available call.
Clearing an Identity Hold
Once you pass ID.me verification, the identity hold on your Reconnect account should be removed. However, passing ID.me does not automatically release your payments. If there are separate holds — a non-monetary adjudication, a monetary pending issue, an employer protest — those remain active independently.
If you have completed ID.me verification and your account still shows an identity hold after several days, contact the Reemployment Assistance Help Center online or call 1-833-352-7759.

Special Cases
Claimants under 18 must call 1-833-352-7759 for help verifying their identity.
Recent name changes — if you legally changed your name, ID.me requires a primary document showing your new legal name and a linking document, such as a marriage certificate or legal name change document.
No smartphone or camera — ID.me requires a device with a camera for the biometric scan. If you do not have access to one, CareerSource Florida centers in your area may be able to provide assistance.
Do Not Wait to Verify
Filing your claim and skipping identity verification is one of the most common reasons people wait weeks without payment. Complete it immediately after filing. If you miss a biweekly payment request while resolving an identity hold, contact the Help Center to ask for the missed weeks to be made available.
The Florida Unemployment Claim Guide covers the full identity verification process along with a troubleshooting checklist for common ID.me roadblocks.
