The English/Spanish customer service line is 1-800-300-5616. EDD also lists dedicated language lines above; the technical support line helps with portal login problems but representatives cannot access your claim or payment details.

Strategies for Getting Through

Call volume on the main line is heavy and you may get a busy signal or long hold. A few things help:

Avoid the busiest times. EDD says Monday and Tuesday mornings before 10 a.m. are its busiest call times and recommends calling at another time.

Have your information ready. When you do reach a representative, have your Social Security number, EDD customer account number, and a clear description of the issue. Representatives follow strict procedures — they cannot override an identity hold or skip an eligibility review, but they can tell you exactly what EDD needs from you to clear the issue.

When the Phone Is Not Enough

If you have been unable to resolve a claim issue through EDD's phone lines or UI Online for an extended period, two escalation paths exist:

Ask EDD is a secure message system inside UI Online. You can submit a written inquiry about your claim, and EDD responds within the portal. It is slower than a phone call but creates a documented paper trail.

Legislative office assistance. Your California State Assembly or State Senate representative's district office can make a constituent inquiry to EDD on your behalf. This does not guarantee a faster resolution, but it adds another point of contact when standard channels are not working.

For day-to-day claim management — certification, earnings reporting, tracking notices and deadlines — the California Unemployment Claim Guide provides the structured tools that reduce how many calls to EDD you need to make in the first place.
