WorkInTexas Registration for Unemployment Benefits
One of the most common early mistakes Texas unemployment claimants make is assuming that filing their claim through UBS also takes care of WorkInTexas. It doesn't. These are separate systems with different purposes, and if TWC requires you to register for work, missing the deadline can delay your benefits.
What WorkInTexas.com Is
WorkInTexas.com (WIT) is Texas's statewide job matching system. It's where you create a job seeker profile, upload your resume, and search for open positions. Workforce Solutions career centers and American Job Centers across the state use this system to connect unemployed workers with employers.
When You Must Register
If TWC requires you to register for work, complete registration within three business days after applying. Texas residents and people who commute to Texas from a bordering state register on WorkInTexas.com. People who live in another state register with that state's job bank. Some claimants are exempt.
When the requirement applies, work registration is an eligibility condition. Failing to register by the deadline can make you ineligible until you comply.
WorkInTexas Is Not Your Unemployment Claim
This is the point that trips most people up. Registering on WorkInTexas.com does not:
- File an unemployment claim
- Submit a payment request
- Report your earnings
- Certify your work search activities
All of those tasks happen on the Unemployment Benefits Services (UBS) portal at ui.texasworkforce.org. WorkInTexas is your job search and resume platform. UBS is your claim management portal. You need both, and one doesn't substitute for the other.

What to Put in Your Profile
When you register, you'll create a job seeker profile that includes:
- Your work history and skills
- The types of jobs you're looking for
- Your preferred work location and commute range
- A resume (you can build one in the system or upload your own)
Keep your profile up to date. Registration by itself does not establish that you are making a reasonable search for suitable work. Make the required weekly work search contacts; an application or other qualifying contact made through WorkInTexas can count.
Out-of-State Residents
If you live in a bordering state and commute to Texas for work, register on WorkInTexas.com. If you live in another state, register with that state's job bank unless TWC tells you that you are exempt.
